NOMAD Sport Band Review: Outperforming Apple’s Original Strap

NOMAD sent us a few of their Sport Bands to try, and after weeks of testing, they’ve proven to be better than Apple’s own stock Sport Bands in both comfort and style.
Design & Build

These are made from compression-molded FKM fluoroelastomer rubber, the same kind of high-performance material used in diving gear and other extreme-weather applications. It’s tough enough for hiking, gym sessions, and water sports, but it’s still flexible and comfortable for all-day wear.

The ventilation grooves run the entire length of the inside, which is something Apple’s Sport Bands don’t have (they only run part of the length for the enclosure)—this makes a noticeable difference during sweaty workouts or hot summer days, keeping your wrist cooler and reducing that sticky feeling. It’s also looks better than Apple’s Nike Sport Bands ($59 CAD), while allowing better cooling without a band that has so many open holes.

Fit & Compatibility

We tested the band on the Apple Watch Series 10 (46mm), but it’s compatible with Apple Watch Ultra, Ultra 2, Series 1–10, and SE, in sizes 49mm, 45mm, 44mm, and 42mm. It slid into place with no fuss and locked securely thanks to the low-profile pin-and-tuck closure, which works just like Apple’s but feels more premium thanks to NOMAD’s custom aluminum closure pin. Once on, it didn’t shift, even during intense movement.

Style & Colour Options

One of the best things about these bands is the colour selection. We tested Black, Ash Green, Coastal Rock, and White, and the colour tones are richer and more stylish than most of Apple’s options. Ash Green and Coastal Rock were standouts for us—subtle enough for the office, sharp enough for nights out. NOMAD also offers a limited-edition Glow version, which actually glows in the dark—a fun, unique touch.
Real-World Use

These easily handled long workdays, sweaty workouts such as CrossFit, and even a weekend hiking trip. Being 100% waterproof means you can swim or shower without worrying about damage or rust on the pin. The grooves on the back meant we never had to take the band off to let our skin “breathe”—something that happens often with Apple’s smoother Sport Band. These offer some more flex than Apple’s stock Sport Band. We also liked how easy it was to swap colours based on the day’s plans.
The white band is a great idea for Canada Day, or if you’re heading to an all-white party. The black band is also pretty basic but is a good choice if you’re heading to dirtier environments and don’t want blemishes to show on your coloured straps.

Price & Value
At $89 CAD with duties and taxes included, plus free shipping, these NOMAD Sport Bands aren’t cheap as they are $30 more than Apple’s own Sport Bands. But considering the premium materials, comfort improvements, and better colour palette, they feel worth the extra cost—especially if you want something that looks great at work and performs on the trail or in the gym.
Bottom Line
If you’ve been using Apple’s Sport Band and want something with better airflow, richer colours, and a more premium feel, NOMAD’s Sport Band is a clear upgrade if your wallet can make it work. For those making their first NOMAD purchase, you can join their mailing list and get a free USB-C ChargeKey keychain cable (worth $40 CAD), which is a nice little bonus.

Really love these but $90 just for a watchband???? Pass!
Free shipping is only on orders of $250 or more. Nomad is good quality but no thanks.
Good looking band. Cannot say anything about its performance. Received this as a gift, but it was too small for me, and they do not have different size options. Their website does state "one size fits most", so make sure you about your wrist size.
