WhatsApp Beta iOS Introduces AI Writing Assistance

As reported by WABetaInfo, the latest WhatsApp iOS beta has added a private AI writing assistant that offers tone options and preserves user privacy with on device processing.

Following the release of the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS version 25.22.10.74, a feature known as ‘Writing Help’ is becoming available to a limited group of testers. The tool uses Meta’s Private Processing framework to analyze typed messages on the device without exposing content.

When users type a short phrase in a chat, the familiar sticker icon in the input bar transforms into a pen symbol. Tapping this opens the assistant that offers rewritten options for structure tone or clarity but does so without retaining the message or suggestions on any server.

Only after a user opts in does the iPhone briefly transmit the text for analysis. Meta’s system sends back multiple alternative versions in real time before discarding all data. This ensures that neither WhatsApp nor Meta can access the prompt or the outputs at any point. Once suggestions arrive, they only appear on the device.

Users can choose from at least three alternatives that reflect different tones. There is a rephrase option aimed at improving flow and readability without changing meaning. A professional tone shifts text to sound more formal and polished suitable for work while a fun tone adds humor.

Supportive and proofread tones offer empathy and grammar correction respectively. WhatsApp may add more tone options over time.

When users review the AI suggestions they may send the original message or swap it with one of the new versions. The feature does not notify recipients that the message was edited with AI help. A feedback mechanism allows users to rate the usefulness of suggestions. This feedback only includes a satisfaction score, never the actual text.

This iOS release follows the Android beta launch of the Writing Help tool and aims to deliver a comparable experience on both platforms.
