Google Unveils AI Personal Health Coach in Redesigned Fitbit App

Google is preparing to launch an AI-powered personal health coach inside Fitbit Premium this October, that adapts to individual fitness habits and wellness goals.

Google AI Health.

Powered by Gemini, this coach will offer proactive support for fitness sleep and wellbeing using data from Fitbit devices or Pixel Watches. The new experience will debut later this year as part of the Fitbit Premium tier.

Users start with a chat session to set goals preferences and equipment. Based on that, it builds a weekly plan that includes workouts sleep routines and wellness check ins. If you have a rough night of sleep or get sick, the coach updates your plan automatically so it truly feels like a human trainer.

The app redesign centers on usability and personalization. It introduces dark mode, clearer data visualizations, and a prominent “Ask Coach” button to encourage conversation. The Today view now highlights key health metrics and seamlessly integrates AI suggestions.

Health insights also go deeper and adapt over time. The coach learns from advanced sleep algorithms and activity trends, and surfaces suggestions that reflect your long term progress. It also supports retroactive activity logging and custom tags, while pulling in information from Health Connect and HealthKit so you don’t have to stick to only Fitbit workouts.

To ensure flexibility the coach offers on demand adjustments. You can tell it if you injured yourself or got thrown off plan and it will modify your workouts and routines accordingly. It even recognizes recovery needs and suggests changes to help you stay on track without overdoing it.

The feature will be offered as an opt in preview for Fitbit Premium members in the US. Google invites interested users to register for early access and help refine the experience over time.
