Lyft Brings Favourite Driver Option to Canada, Finally
Canadians can now mark their favourite Lyft driver and get matched with them more often while controlling who they ride with through the new Safety Hub.

The feature started appearing in select regions this week and is scheduled to be widely available across both the US and Canada by the end of August.
Riders now have the option to favourite drivers who set the right tone, whether it’s a calm commute, a friendly conversation, or that ideal temperature setting. The app’s matching algorithm will then give these drivers priority on scheduled bookings, strengthening the customer-driver connection.
Drivers also benefit from this new system. When marked as a favourite, they receive an in-app notification and gain early access to the requesting rider’s future trips. This not only increases potential earnings but reinforces appreciation for consistent service.
This feature arrives alongside Lyft’s newly introduced Safety Hub. This centralized control panel brings together tools like direct driver blocking, audio recording, PIN verification, and location sharing. Riders can now prevent being paired with specific drivers—an industry-first move that bolsters safety and choice.
Lyft isn’t the only ride app innovating in this space. Uber recently unveiled a “Women’s Preferences” tool that lets female riders choose women drivers. Lyft’s “Favourite Driver” is more inclusive but delivers on similar goals—comfort, familiarity, and control. Now, Uber has had a favourite driver feature since 2020, so Lyft is pretty late to the game on this.

As Lyft rolls out these changes through August in both countries, riders will only need to update their app to begin favouriting drivers and using the new safety tools.
