Pokémon GO Unveils Level 80 Update, New Rewards, and More

Starting October 15, Pokémon GO players will enjoy a fully rebalanced advancement system that raises the Trainer level ceiling from its current 50 to an ambitious 80.

With this expansion, the leveling curve from 1 to 80 will be revamped. Trainers will find themselves advancing more frequently through levels, edging past the grind that has long burdened higher-level play.

Tasks tied to Level-Up Research for old levels 41 to 50 will be removed, while new research milestones will appear between levels 71 and 80, offering a renewed sense of achievement near the cap.

Players above level 70 will enjoy better odds at becoming Lucky Friends, which adds a social perk for high-level Trainers. Plus, starting as early as level 25, brand-new avatar cosmetics, as well as increased storage for Pokémon, items, and Gifts, will become available, injecting fresh flair and utility into progression.

On launch day of the update, some Trainers will automatically see their levels adjust upward based on total XP accumulated. No one will drop in rank, but XP thresholds for certain upcoming levels may change. Details about exactly how much jump some Trainers can expect will be shared closer to the release date.

Before the new leveling horizon arrives, Trainers have a chance to preserve their legacy rewards. By October 14 at 11:59 p.m. local time, players will receive a special medal marking their highest level attained from 1 to 50. Those who have reached level 50 will also retain their signature Level 50 Jacket and an exclusive avatar pose.

After that deadline, the chance to earn level-40 to level-50 cosmetic rewards ends, though players will retain any rewards already earned.

To prepare Trainers for this revamped journey, Pokémon GO is launching an XP Celebration event running from August 25, 2025 at 1 p.m. PDT until October 14 at 11:59 p.m. local time. Players will benefit from double XP on Nice, Great, and Excellent Throws, plus additional bonuses: 3,000 XP for winning raids and 3,000 XP for Max Battle wins.

Trainers can also pick up the XP Celebration Ultra Box from the web store. Priced at US $9.99 (or local equivalent), it includes 15 Lucky Eggs, a Super Incubator, a regular Incubator, five Incense, and two Lure Modules.
