OnePlus Ends Hasselblad Deal, Unveils ‘DetailMax Engine’ Camera Tech

OnePlus is moving into a new era of smartphone photography it says, announcing the end of its five-year partnership with Hasselblad while revealing its own imaging system called the OnePlus DetailMax Engine.
The company announced last week the new technology is designed to deliver clearer, more realistic photos without the artificial enhancements that have drawn criticism in mobile photography. The DetailMax Engine uses computational imaging to capture more data, allowing photos to retain sharpness and depth even when zoomed in.
Over the past five years, OnePlus worked closely with Hasselblad to integrate the camera maker’s well-known colour science into its phones, fine-tuning shades and tones for a more natural look. That collaboration has now wrapped up, but OnePlus says Hasselblad’s influence is “woven into every future OnePlus camera.”
The new DetailMax Engine is already being tested on early prototypes, with OnePlus promising it will set “a new standard for clarity” when the next flagship device launches.
“The best moments of this journey are still ahead. And now, more than ever, we’re ready for them. Let’s capture them together,” concluded Pete Lau, co-founder and CEO of OnePlus.
Right now OnePlus is offering up to $299 in free gifts on its website as part of back to school deals.
