Apple Watch Ultra 3 Adds Satellite Connectivity, Largest Display, and 42-Hour Battery

Apple has unveiled the Apple Watch Ultra 3, its most advanced smartwatch to date, designed for athletes, adventurers, and anyone who wants extended connectivity and health tracking.

For the first time, Ultra 3 features built-in satellite communications, letting users send messages, share their location, or contact emergency services when outside cellular and Wi-Fi coverage. Emergency SOS via satellite can also trigger automatically in cases like severe car crashes or hard falls if the wearer is unresponsive.

The watch has the largest display ever on an Apple Watch, using new LTPO3 and wide-angle OLED technology for brighter viewing at more angles. The always-on refresh rate now updates once per second, making it possible to see a ticking second hand without raising the wrist.

Battery life has been extended to 42 hours in normal use and up to 72 hours in Low Power Mode. Continuous GPS and heart-rate tracking in Low Power Mode lasts up to 20 hours. Fast charging gives about 12 hours of use from just 15 minutes.

Health upgrades include hypertension notifications, which can alert users to signs of chronic high blood pressure after analyzing heart data over a 30-day period, and sleep score, a feature that rates nightly rest quality with a breakdown of key metrics.

On the fitness side, Ultra 3 integrates Workout Buddy, powered by Apple Intelligence, and offers the most accurate GPS Apple has put in a sports watch. It also supports 5G cellular connectivity, improving app, music, and podcast performance.
