Spotify Free Users Can Now Search and Play Any Song
Spotify has added a handful of new features for free users, improving search, playlists, lyrics, and sharing so music lovers get more control and a richer experience without upgrading.

One of the biggest changes is that free users can now search for any song whenever they want and play it instantly. Previously, this was often limited by shuffle mode or recommendations.
Moreover, if a friend shares a track or an artist posts something new on social media, users can tap and go directly to that track. Sharing tracks has become faster too so friends can enjoy music together more easily. The company is also improving how you explore music.
Spotify is now offering editorial playlists curated by its music experts. There is also a “daylist” feature, that adjusts with your daily habits. If you listen to certain songs at certain times of day or week, your daylist changes to match your mood or routine. Over time, Spotify learns from your listening style to suggest new artists songs and podcasts that are more likely to resonate with you.
Another highlight is the ability to personalize playlist covers. Free users in over a hundred markets can now choose images, colours, text, and graphic touches to design covers that reflect their vibe. This works on both iOS and Android. Every new cover replaces the previous one, so each playlist always has a single custom image.
Lyrics are getting more interactive too. When a song with lyrics is playing, users can swipe up in the mobile app to view real time scrolling lyrics. If you see a specific lyric, you want friends to know you can share it easily via social apps like Instagram or WhatsApp.

Spotify is also putting emphasis on discovery tools like Discover Weekly and Release Radar, that bring fresh drops and personalised selections. The more you listen and tell Spotify what you like, the better those recommendations become.
While premium features remain for those who want lossless audio ad free listening or advanced controls, these changes show Spotify doubling down on its belief that the free tier can be more than just an entry point.
