The Tech Chap has tested the iPhone 17, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max to find out which has the longest battery, and whether they offer a big upgrade over the 16 Pro Max.
We shared his initial impressions on the iPhone 17 lineup’s battery performance yesterday, which revealed some interesting results.
After a 10-hour YouTube streaming test, the iPhone 16 Pro Max held up best, finishing with 62% battery. The iPhone 17 surprisingly matched the cheaper iPhone Air, both ending at 49%. The iPhone 17 Pro came in at 58%, while the 17 Pro Max led with 63%.
In a full drain test that mixed Wi-Fi, eSIM, gaming, and regular apps, the iPhone Air did come last, but not by much compared to the iPhone 17. The big surprise was the 17 Pro lasting longer than last year’s 16 Pro Max, finishing with around 10% more battery when the 16 Pro Max finally died.

Now, the YouTuber points out this is just one iPhone 17 series battery test and his results may differ from others that are forthcoming. But he says brightness, apps, SIM cards, and other settings all change the eventual outcome.
