Facebook Dating is rolling out an AI dating assistant and a matching tool called Meet Cute in Canada and the US, aimed at easing what many users call “swipe fatigue.”
Swipe fatigue refers to the exhaustion users feel after repeatedly rejecting or approving profiles with little sense of progress. Meta is targeting younger adults, especially those between 18 and 29, who generate large numbers of new Facebook Dating profiles each month.
The new dating assistant acts like a chat helper inside Facebook Dating. Users can enter prompts that go beyond standard filters like height or education.
For example a user might type “Find me a Brooklyn girl in tech,” or request suggestions to improve their profile. The assistant is designed both to refine match recommendations and provide guidance on crafting profile descriptions or first date ideas. Roll-out begins in the Matches tab and will happen gradually in the US and Canada.
Meet Cute gives users a weekly surprise match based on Facebook’s matching algorithm. The feature aims to offer connections without requiring the user to swipe. If the match is not appealing, users may pass or unmatch and move on. Meta is exploring giving users options for how often these curated matches arrive and allows opting out of the feature altogether.
For many people, online dating has become tiresome when constant swiping yields fewer satisfying conversations or dates. These updates show Meta is betting that smart tools and surprise matches may restore energy to the experience. Meta says it does not require paying for these new tools, reinforcing that Facebook Dating remains free to use.
These new tools may also help Facebook better compete with other dating apps that have leaned heavily on swipe-mechanics like Tinder or more curated match suggestions like Hinge.
