Snapchat to Roll Out Memories Storage Plans, Offering up to 5TB of Past Snaps

Snapchat is launching new Memories storage plans across the platform. As the new paid tiers are becoming available, those with over 5GB of Memories will soon have to pay for additional storage on the instant messaging app.

Announced via a Newsroom post, Snapchat users can expect to find new ‘Memories Storage Plans’ offering 100GB. Those with Snapchat+ will find the included perk of 250GB of Memories storage available. Finally, anyone on the Snapchat Platinum subscription will receive a whopping 5TB of storage.

For reference, Snapchat+ is available in Canada for $9.99 per month and it also grants access to a custom app icon, chat wallpapers, and story rewatch counts. The high-tier Snapchat Platinum subscription is $15.99 and offers access to all Snapchat+ features, over 100 exclusive Lenses, as well as removes ads for Stories and Lenses.

These storage plans support the ability to store and archive previous Snaps. While users can theoretically save media via their camera roll on their phone, Memories are snaps that are specifically saved and chosen by the user. Since launching Memories in 2016, Snapchat has seen more than 1 trillion Memories being saved.

This all being said, the company has stated that many users aren’t even close to the 5GB threshold. In this case, these users won’t have anything to worry about as the new storage options are being made available. To reach and exceed 5GB of Memories, Snapchat users will have to have thousands of Snaps saved.

Snapchat is also offering a 12-month grace period for those who have exceeded 5GB of storage. During this time, users are free to choose a Memories Storage Plan or download their memories to their devices and reduce the storage in-app.

“Thank you for trusting us with some of your most precious moments,” the company states. “These changes will allow us to continue to invest in making Memories better for our entire community.”
