WestJet Teams Up With Apple to End Your Lost Luggage Nightmare
WestJet passengers now have a new tool to fight back against lost luggage headaches: the airline is rolling out support for Apple’s Find My ‘Share Item Location’ feature, joining Air Canada.
As of last week, travellers with delayed bags can generate a tracking link from the Find My app and paste it into their baggage claim report. That lets WestJet staff see the real-time location of an AirTag or other Find My network device tucked inside a bag.
The feature shuts off automatically after seven days, once the bag is found, or at any time by the passenger.
The move comes nearly a year after Apple announced its first airline partners last fall, including Air Canada, Delta and United. After launching in December, Apple’s marketing chief Greg Joswiak called the integration “a game-changer,” while Air Canada posted on X that it was “eager to integrate technology to help improve the customer experience. Critics shot back with a simpler request: stop losing bags in the first place.
Apple built the system with end-to-end encryption and privacy controls. The feature only works on iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2 or macOS 15.2 and later, and Apple is expected to launch a new AirTag model sometime in 2025. In order to get started, you’ll need to buy some AirTags to toss into your luggage. Ahead of the busy holiday travel season, this feature comes just in time for WestJet travellers.
