Samsung Galaxy Ring Malfunction Sends Wearer to Hospital
A troubling incident involving Samsung’s Galaxy Ring unfolded this week when Youtuber @ZONEofTECH discovered that the smart ring’s battery had swollen while it was locked on his finger, just as he was about to board a flight.

His post on X described the harrowing sequence: he was denied boarding, sent to the hospital, and forced to spend the night away from home while the device was extracted.
Daniel shared that he had been traveling nonstop for around 47 hours when the swelling occurred. At that moment, the ring became stuck tight against his skin, causing pain and preventing normal removal. He recalled that efforts to ease the ring off with soap and water only worsened the problem by driving the battery to expand further.
Doctors ultimately had to intervene, using ice and medical lubricant to reduce swelling before detaching the ring. The ordeal left Daniel stranded and scrambling for a hotel for the night.
He posted images of the ring’s deformed inner structure, which clearly appeared bulged and distorted. The swelling seemed most pronounced opposite the device’s sensor array, where internal pressure forced the battery casing outward toward his finger. The entire episode ended with a defiant declaration: “I won’t be wearing a smart ring ever again.”
Ahhh…this is…not good.
My Samsung Galaxy Ring’s battery started swelling. While it’s on my finger 😬. And while I’m about to board a flight 😬
Now I cannot take it off and this thing hurts.

Samsung has responded by acknowledging the matter and saying they were in direct contact with Daniel to investigate. In a statement, they described such battery swelling cases as extremely rare, and offered guidance on ring removal methods, such as using soap and water or submerging the hand in cold water.
This is not the first time a Galaxy Ring battery expansion has been reported. Earlier this year, a user on Reddit posted an image of similar bulging behavior. In that case, the ring had to be cut off after it became stuck.

Airlines will need to bring back the ban on Samsung devices. Not worth the risk.
