Brave Browser Hits 100 Million Monthly Active Users

Privacy-focused web browser Brave has officially exceeded 100 million monthly active users (MAU) across both desktop and mobile platforms, according to an official announcement by the company.

Brave’s daily active users (DAU) have topped 42 million, yielding a DAU to MAU ratio of roughly 0.42. Over the past two years, the browser has added an average of 2.5 million net new users per month.

The company attributes this rapid adoption to growing global awareness around data privacy, greater frustration with tracking by major tech platforms, and the appeal of browsing that is often faster than competitors. In particular, after changes in the EU browser choice rules and the rollout of iOS 17.4 in 2024, Brave’s daily installs on iOS in Europe rose by 50%.

Brendan Eich, Brave’s CEO and co-founder, described the milestone as more than a growth marker. He said it reflects a movement toward a web where users are put first rather than being surveilled. Eich emphasized that all of Brave’s productsfr, om its ad system to its premium services, are designed with “privacy by default” in mind.

The browser’s search component, Brave Search, has also shown strong momentum. It now handles more than 1.6 billion queries per month, translating to nearly 20 billion annually. On average, Brave Search receives over 50 million queries per day, and its AI-powered answers number more than 15 million per day.

Brave also recently introduced “Ask Brave,” a new AI chat experience native to its search engine, aiming to merge conversational AI with traditional search.

The browser positions itself as more than a browser by bundling a suite of privacy tools. Its Shields feature blocks ads, third-party trackers, fingerprinting, cross-site cookies, and phishing attempts, all without requiring external extensions.

Though many of Brave’s features are free, the company offers premium upgrades. Brave VPN is already used by close to 100,000 subscribers, each subscription protecting up to 10 devices. Premium tiers also exist for AI assistant Leo, Brave Search (ad-free), and Brave Talk video conferencing.
