Google Gemini’s $27 Pro Plan Is Free for Canadian Students—Here’s What’s Inside

Google is giving college and university students in Canada free access to its Gemini AI tools for one year, as part of a new education initiative launched this week.
Starting today, Canadian students aged 18 and older can sign up for the Gemini Pro plan at no cost until December 9, 2025. The plan, which normally costs $26.99 per month, includes access to Google’s most advanced AI tools, such as:
- Gemini 2.5 Pro: lets users ask questions, upload images, and get writing or study help through unlimited chat and image uploads.
- Deep Research: generates detailed reports that summarize findings from across the web.
- NotebookLM: helps organize thoughts and notes, now with expanded audio and video support.
- Veo 3: creates short 8-second videos with sound from text or photos.
- 2 TB of cloud storage on Google Photos, Drive, and Gmail.
That’s $324 worth of Gemini Pro for free, before taxes. Not too shabby at all.
Google says the goal is to make learning more interactive and personalized. One new feature, Guided Learning, walks students through topics step-by-step instead of just giving quick answers, using videos and visuals to explain tougher concepts. Another tool can automatically generate flashcards and study guides from class materials to make test prep easier.
The company is also improving Gemini’s ability to include images, diagrams, and YouTube videos directly in answers to help students better understand subjects like biology or physics.
Students 18 or older can sign up through their Google account to access the free plan until the offer expires in December. After the first year, the Gemini Pro plan renews at its regular price of $26.99 CAD per month. Who’s jumping on this?
This offer from Google is better than a recent offer from OpenAI for free ChatGPT Plus for students, which was only available for two months. Who needs to use your brain when AI can do it for you? Students must love these generative AI tools and now Gemini Pro can be free for one year.
