Meta Demands 5X Efficiency from Metaverse Divisions Using AI

Meta is directing its metaverse division to adopt AI in every aspect of their work in order to boost output significantly across product, design, and engineering teams, Wired is reporting.

Vishal Shah, Meta’s vice president of the metaverse, addressed employees with a message framing a vision called “AI4P” or AI for Productivity. His message urged teams to “think 5X, not 5%,” pushing for fivefold improvements rather than incremental gains.

He emphasized that AI should not remain a novelty or side tool but become central to how Meta builds and operates its metaverse platforms. Shah made clear that this shift would apply broadly. He expects not only engineers but also product managers, designers, and cross-functional partners to get involved.

The internal directive includes training programs and dedicated “AI learning days” so that by year end about 80 percent of the metaverse workforce will have AI integrated into everyday tasks.

This push ties into Zuckerberg’s broader belief that AI will soon play a commanding role in how Meta operates. He has predicted that much of the company’s code could be written by AI within the next 12 to 18 months. Meta already allows prospective software engineers to use AI during coding interview challenges, signaling how seriously it views AI’s role in development.

But the aggressive target raises concerns. Some engineers worry that leaning too heavily on AI may undercut code quality and make understanding legacy systems harder. The result may be a growing burden on human engineers who must debug or maintain AI-generated code without full visibility into its logic.

In response to inquiries about the memo, a Meta spokesperson said using AI more pervasively is a known priority and that the company is actively helping teams integrate AI into everyday tasks.
