Apple Officially Kills Off Its Clips Video App: What You Need to Know

Apple has officially shut down its Clips app, the company’s free video creation tool first launched in 2017.

According to an Apple Support document quietly published on October 11 (via MacRumors), the app “is no longer being updated, and will no longer be available for download for new users as of October 10, 2025.”

The Canadian App Store download link no longer works, but Apple.ca still has a website showcasing the clips app (expect that to be removed soon).

Existing users can still access Clips on iOS 26 or earlier, but Apple is advising them to save their videos before moving to newer versions of iOS or iPadOS.

Clips allowed users to make quick, social-style videos using filters, stickers, text effects, and automatic captions. The app was designed for casual editing on iPhone and iPad, with simple sharing to social media.

Apple recommends that users save their projects to the Photos app or move them to iMovie or other video editors like InShot, VN Video Editor, or GoPro Quik. Those who had previously downloaded Clips can still redownload it from their App Store account, but Apple confirmed there will be no further updates.

The app’s final update came in May 2024, marking the quiet end of Apple’s short-lived experiment in mobile video editing.

Does anyone use this app at all? I played with it for a few minutes after it first launched, and never opened it again.
