Samsung Canada Study Shows the Rise of Homebody Lifestyle

A new survey from Samsung Canada has revealed a shift toward what is being called the “homebody economy.” More Canadians are choosing comfort and convenience over costly nights out, turning their living rooms into personal entertainment centers.

Samsung Electronics Canada Survey Uncovers Canada s Homebody Ec.

According to the survey, 85% of Canadians prefer movie nights at home instead of going out. More than half, around 55%, say they would rather invest in better home entertainment systems than spend money on outside experiences.

Nearly half of all respondents, 47%, consider the living room the most important space in their home. These numbers paint a clear picture of how Canadians are redefining entertainment in an era when comfort and affordability matter more than ever.

Pat Bugos, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Consumer Electronics at Samsung Canada, said the living room has evolved into a central hub for entertainment and connection. He explained that televisions now serve as more than screens for watching shows. They are gateways to immersive experiences, gaming, and even fitness routines.

The survey also highlights clear generational differences. Among Gen Z Canadians, 51% say they want a cinema-style experience without leaving home. About 38% see their television as an essential part of their connected lifestyle. Younger audiences are especially motivated by cultural events like major sports tournaments or movie premieres.

Despite this enthusiasm for at-home entertainment, many Canadians feel overwhelmed by the number of streaming platforms. 65% admit they struggle to manage multiple subscriptions, and almost half, 49%, are drawn to smart TVs that simplify the process through personalized recommendations.

Samsung’s findings mirror wider consumer trends across Canada. Economic uncertainty and high living costs have encouraged people to cut back on discretionary spending. However, home-based upgrades such as new televisions and smart devices continue to see strong demand.

You don't need to be a rocket scientist to know that.
In fact you don't need to look any further than the Zombie like humanoids planted in front of the screen in our own home.
