Dyson Airstrait Review: She Loves It, You’ll Love the Time It Saves

Dyson airstrait review 1.

Dyson recently sent us their Airstrait to check out and test, one of their latest haircare products that debuted back in the spring of 2023. Since my hair isn’t exactly long and luscious, I had to get my wife to test out the Airstrait, which essentially is a blow dryer and hair straightener in one device.

Dyson airstrait hero.

She’s not new to Dyson haircare products—she already owns the Supersonic hair dryer and the Airwrap, so she knows what to expect from the company’s products. After a couple weeks of testing, her Airstrait verdict was clear: it’s faster to dry hair, gentler, and the results actually look better.

In the box, you get the Dyson Airstrait itself and a rubber mat. The cord is nice and long. The Airstrait is not super heavy by any means but is a good weight and easy to manage. There’s a button that keeps it clamped together during the air drying mode (for your scalp) and unclamped is when you can start using it to both dry and straighten your hair.

Below is the Airstrait in Ceramic Pink:

She said the Airstrait causes noticeably less heat damage than her usual flat iron. It doesn’t get nearly as hot, and her hair feels smoother afterward, not crispy or dry. We even checked her old straightener with an infrared reader, and it hit about 170C. The Airstrait doesn’t need to reach those kinds of temperatures to deliver a polished, sleek finish (it ranges from 79C to 140C).

The biggest difference, though, is time. Normally, she has to blow-dry her hair first, then go back in with a flat iron to smooth things out. This waiting is the bane of any man’s existence. The Airstrait eliminates that entire first step. It dries and straightens in one motion, which means she’s done much faster and I’m spending less time waiting for her to get ready. The result is sleeker hair with less frizz and puff — more of that natural, smooth-and-shiny look Dyson keeps talking about.

Below there’s a plastic filter cover that slides down for you to clear away any dust that will build up over time over the air intake. Our unit’s filter cover felt a bit loose — it slid off more easily than expected.

I even tried the Airstrait myself on her hair, which is naturally curly and fine. Using it felt surprisingly easy. Instead of clamping down on hair with hot plates, the Airstrait pushes out controlled, high-velocity air through narrow vents along its arms. It’s quiet, intuitive, and feels like something out of a sci-fi movie. Dyson says it uses precision-angled jets of air to dry and straighten at the same time—and honestly, it works.

There are two main styling modes, Wet and Dry, with adjustable temperature and airflow settings for each. Wet mode has three heat levels (175°F, 230°F, and 285°F), while Dry mode can go up to 285°F or give an extra boost when needed. There’s also a Cool mode to help set the style. The Airstrait automatically senses when hair is between its arms and drops to a lower airflow when idle, which makes it quieter and more efficient. If you stop using it for a few seconds, it even pauses on its own until you move it again. Super cool and convenient.

For anyone wondering, yes, Dyson’s usual engineering flair is here too. The design feels premium and solid, with a simple lock-and-unlock mechanism to use it closed for pre-drying or open for full styling. It’s the kind of device that makes every other straightener look outdated.

According to Dyson, the Airstrait was developed to straighten hair from wet to dry using only air — no hot plates, no direct heat damage. It’s designed to maintain hair’s natural strength and shine while simplifying your routine. The result is a tool that’s fast, powerful, and engineered for multiple hair types.

For the holidays, Dyson is releasing it in a limited-edition Amber Silk colour, and it’ll be available at DysonCanada.ca for $699.99 CAD this fall.

If you’re a guy trying to find a Christmas gift that will actually impress your wife or girlfriend, stop scrolling. This is it, but be warned as it’s going to break the bank (keep an eye out for Black Friday deals), as it’s a premium Dyson product. But you’re getting both a Dyson hair dryer and straightener in one, so you’re “saving” right?

The Dyson Airstrait is one of those rare beauty tools that not only works as advertised but also saves time—which means you’ll both appreciate it. It’s genuinely impressive tech, and yes, she’ll thank you for it (think about the brownie points).
