Rockstar Games Delays Grand Theft Auto VI to November 2026

Rockstar Games has delayed Grand Theft Auto VI to November 19th, 2026. The long-awaited game was due to release in May of next year.
Rockstar Games sent out a statement regarding the delay. “Hi everyone, Grand Theft Auto VI will now release on Thursday, November 19, 2026,” the post read. The company continued to add that the delay is due to giving the studio more time to polish the game before launch.
“We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.”
Grand Theft Auto VI had been previously delayed as well. In May of this year, Rockstar Games announced that it was pushing the game from its original release date to May 26, 2026.
“We want to thank you again for your patience and support,” Rockstar Games says. “While the wait is a little longer, we are incredibly excited for players to experience the sprawling state of Leonida and a return to modern-day Vice City.”
Fans have awaited the anticipated title for quite some time. Grand Theft Auto V, the last entry in the franchise, was released in 2013. It has since gone on to become the second-best-selling game of all time.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick spoke to IGN about the delay and said, “We’ve had more time to develop the title. And so we are getting closer to the release. We are grateful that it is still within the same fiscal year. And mostly we’re grateful to Rockstar for constantly seeking perfection.”
On October 30th, 31 employees from Rockstar Games’ UK studios were fired. The Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain (IWGB), an organization that represents workers in the gaming sector, has accused Rockstar Games of attempting to prevent the staff in the UK from unionizing. However, a spokesperson told Bloomberg that it wasn’t the case and that the individuals were let go after leaking information.
Grand Theft Auto VI is expected to release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
