In recent years, Spotify’s financial support for Quebec artists has grown notably. In 2024, the platform’s royalty payments to artists who self-identify as Quebec-based rose by more than twenty percent compared to the previous year. At the same time, the number of Quebec artists earning over CA$10,000 is growing steadily.

Local listeners are responding in kind. According to Spotify’s data, 82% of people in Quebec believe it is easy to find French-Canadian music on the platform. Francophone music streams in Quebec climbed by 16% year over year in 2024, outpacing the global growth in French-language content.

More than half of all the Francophone music streamed in Quebec comes from Canadian artists, and listening among young people is surging: streams among 18- to 24-year-olds jumped by 32%, with nearly 40% of those Francophone listens coming from audiences under 29.

Spotify reports that Quebec users streamed a staggering 7.8 billion minutes of Francophone music in 2025 so far. The company also pointed out a striking cultural moment: on Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day this year, listening more than doubled, a 115% rise, underscoring how deeply Quebecers engage with their musical heritage.

To match this cultural energy, Spotify is enhancing how people experience audio in Quebec. It has introduced new listening features that feel more personal, socially connected, and tuned into local tastes. These include Venue Search to follow important stages like Montreal’s Bell Centre, in-app music sharing and chat, refined “Taste Profiles” and playlist blending, and high-resolution lossless audio for Premium subscribers.

Beyond music, Spotify is also expanding its audiobook offerings. Francophone audiobook listening in Canada leapt 121% year over year. The launch of Audiobooks+ gives Quebec listeners even more access to French-language stories and authors.

On the curation side, Spotify now features Quebec artists across 24 editorial playlists, with 15 of them focused exclusively on Quebec’s music scenes. These playlists spotlight everything from new country and R&B to alternative sounds and family favorites.

For creators themselves, Spotify is rolling out powerful tools on its creator platforms. Artists in Quebec can use “Countdown Pages” to build excitement, “Campaign Kit” to promote new music, and visual tools like “Clips” and “Canvas.” For podcasters, Spotify for Podcasters offers Clips, host recommendations, and a more robust partner program.

These moves come in a broader moment of growth for francophone content on Spotify.
