iOS 27 to Focus on Quality Improvements and New AI Features Over Drastic Redesigns

Apple is reportedly focusing on quality improvements and the odd new AI features for iOS 26. After introducing the Liquid Glass UI redesign, this year’s software update is said to be less dramatic.

Via the latest Power On newsletter, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman states that iOS 27 is being developed similarly to macOS X Snow Lepord. Rather than prioritizing how it can change the way its apps function or add new UI elements, iOS 27 will likely be more subdued. According to Gurman, the Cupertino company will look at “quality and underlying performance” versus adding new features.

That being said, iOS 27 won’t be completely barren of new features. Gurman does state that Apple is developing new AI features for next year’s software update. As Apple Intelligence and AI features are already commonly found across Apple’s apps, it’s reported that iOS 27 will add even more AI features to more of the first-party apps.

Additionally, an Apple Health+ subscription service is expected to be rolled out, providing even more in-depth and personalized health recommendations. As previously reported, Health+ may use AI to deliver tailored recommendations on sleep, nutrition and exercise.

As is tradition, the first wave of betas for iOS 27 is expected to roll out later in June of 2026. This will likely be soon after the official reveal of the new software and developed updates at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference.

The annual event is held at Apple HQ and invites developers to get their hands on the new software so they can learn more about it and integrate any new improvements into their own software.
