Rust PS5 Edition Gets Massive Winter Update on Nov. 27

Rust Console Edition is getting a major refresh as a free winter-themed update launches on November 27 for PS5, bringing sweeping changes to the snow biome, including a chilling new monument and a dangerous apex predator roaming the ice.

At the heart of the update is the Arctic Base, a sprawling research outpost buried in the frozen terrain. Inside this facility, players will face off against armed scientists, navigate puzzle-locked doors, and explore a maze of corridors and hidden rooms.

To traverse the icy terrain, survivors now have access to a snowmobile, which offers a fast but noisy way to cross the snow biome. However, speed comes at a cost: the roar of the vehicle draws attention, not just from other players, but from a new polar bear threat. These powerful polar bears are tougher than the regular kind and roam the snowy areas.

Alongside the free update, PlayStation Store will also offer two new winter-themed DLC packs. The Arctic Pack includes a specialized Hazmat suit built for cold resistance, sacrificing some radiation protection for warmth. The Ice King Pack, on the other hand, lets players rule the snow with frosty armor, icy weapons, and a throne fit for a winter monarch.

In addition to environmental and gear changes, Rust’s traditional Christmas event returns in December, starting December 12. Festive features include the Gift Collection, Advent Calendar, decorated Christmas trees, gingerbread mines, and more.

To get into the festive spirit, Rust Console Edition is also releasing new holiday-themed skins. These cover a range of cosmetics, from winter weapons to seasonal outfits, all available in the in-game skin store.

This update comes in the context of a broader shift for Rust on consoles. Earlier in 2025, developer Double Eleven announced that the older PS4 and Xbox One versions of Rust Console Edition would be delisted on May 29. That follows a major generational upgrade to the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions.
