ROG Xbox Ally Latest Update Includes Default Game Profiles

Microsoft and Asus have launched a new update for the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X. Starting now, Default Game Profiles is available in Preview with more quality-of-life improvements releasing as early as next week.
As part of the latest update, ROG Xbox Ally users can now test Default Game Profiles. As revealed in an Xbox Wire post, Default Game Profiles automatically optimizes frame rates and power consumption for over 40 games, including Fortnite, Gears of War: Reloaded, DOOM: The Dark Ages, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 and Hollow Knight: Silksong. Other titles are confirmed to be “coming soon.”
With Default Game Profiles, games running on the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X will run more efficiently, giving you better performance and longer battery life. For instance, the Default Game Profile for Hollow Knight: Silksong grants an extra hour of playtime while maintaining 120fps.
Default Game Profiles are designed to take the busywork out of fiddling with settings in the game and the Armoury Crate. Microsoft states that these are “hand-crafted per-game and only apply when on battery.” When launching a supported title with Default Game Profiles, the system automatically applies the profile, setting the recommended power (TDP) and a FPS limit without any additional changes required.
In order to access Default Game Profiles, ensure that the Armoury Crate SE, the Xbox PC app, and Windows 11 are all updated accordingly.
Other quality-of-life changes included in the update offer faster Gamepad response time after logging in. Libraries now load faster, which will be a great benefit for those with many games installed. There’s also a new Game Gallery filter for Performance Fit, allowing you to better see which games run well on your device.
Starting next week, the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X will receive the Game Save Sync Indicator. This feature shows users when saved progress has been synced to the cloud, avoiding the frustrations when bouncing between handheld, console or PC.
Finally, Microsoft and Asus are looking to integrate AI-powered features like Automatic Super Resolution (Auto SR) early next year. With this, players will have more options for creating highlight reels and sharing their gaming moments from the handheld.
