Shopify Merchants Accumulated $6.2 Billion in Black Friday Sales

Shopify CEO Tibo Lutke has announced that the partnered merchants have broken Black Friday records, totalling $6.2 billion in sales.
In a post made on X (formerly Twitter), Lutke revealed that Shopify merchants saw 25 percent year-over-year total growth over Black Friday this year. This year, the total Black Friday merchant sales sat at $6.2 billion. In comparison, it took the entire Black Friday and Cyber Monday weekend to reach $11.5 billion in sales in 2024.
In other notable stats shared, Lutke states that Shopify’s Edge, its premium theme, which provides a mobile-friendly shopping experience, peaked at 489 million requests per minute. The company’s app servers handled a peak of 117 million requests per minute. It’s claimed that this is up 40 percent year-over-year. Shopify also reports API apps processed over 31 million requests per minute during its peak.
Lutke goes on to state that Shopify’s egress processed 237 billion requests over Black Friday, with peak database queries reaching over 53 million per second.
Over on LinkedIn, Shopify President Harley Finklestein shared the top product categories for Black Friday 2025. These include Cosmetics, Clothing Tops, Activewear, Fitness and Nutrition. As far as products, Finkelstein shared the top trending products:
- Alo, Accolate Crew Neck Pullover
- Cozy Earth, Bamboo Sheet Set
- Merit Beauty, Flush Balm
- Goose Creek Candle, Christmas Tree 3-Wick Candle
- Caraway Home, Cookware Set
- Ilia Beauty, Super Serum Skin Tint

These early numbers arrive even before Cyber Monday really kicks off. 2024 was already such a strong Black Friday weekend for the company, is its many merchants; 2025 is already on track to exceed those records.
In 2024, Shopify reported that more than 76 million global consumers made purchases from Shopify-powered stores. Peak sales reached an impressive $4.6 million per minute.
