Another day, and another 2025 year-end recap is here. Google Photos is rolling out its annual Recap feature again, giving users a short highlight video made from their photos and videos from the past year. The 2025 version includes more customization tools and easier sharing options.
Recap still shows familiar stats such as your most-photographed people and your total number of photos. This year it also adds a selfie count. In the U.S., users who have Gemini features turned on in Google Photos will also see a breakdown of their hobbies and other standout moments pulled from their library.
Google says users asked for more control over what appears in their Recap, so you can now hide specific people or individual photos and generate a new version afterward.
There’s also a new shortcut to edit your Recap in CapCut, the popular video editing app from TikTok parent, ByteDance. Tapping “Edit with CapCut” exports the video and lets you apply templates made for Google Photos. Sharing is simpler too, with a lineup of short clips and collages generated at the end of the Recap that you can post on social apps. You can also share your full Recap directly to WhatsApp Status.
Users will start seeing their Recap appear in the Memories carousel this week. If it hasn’t shown up yet, Google Photos may prompt you to request it. Once created, it stays pinned in the Collections tab through December. The app will also surface additional 2025-themed highlight reels throughout the month.
To check if your Recap is ready, open the Google Photos app and look in the Memories section.
