Amazon Reveals All-New Kindle Scribe Lineup, Not in Canada at Launch

Amazon has introduced a redesigned Kindle Scribe family, including a new colour-writing model called the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft. The refreshed lineup is thinner, lighter and faster than the current generation, and adds several new productivity features powered by AI.

The new 11-inch Scribe models use a paper-like display that’s slimmer and lighter than before, with faster page turns and improved writing responsiveness. Amazon says the display stack has been reworked to reduce parallax, while a new front-light system and textured glass are meant to make writing feel closer to real paper. A faster processor and more memory also aim to improve overall performance.

The Colorsoft version brings colour handwriting to Kindle for the first time, using a custom colour display designed to avoid the harsher look of LCD panels.

Amazon is also adding a revamped software experience. The new Scribe lineup will support Quick Notes on the home screen, improved document import tools for Google Drive and OneDrive, colour pens and highlights, an upgraded workspace for organising files, and an AI-powered notebook that can search handwritten notes and generate summaries. AI features will eventually tie into Alexa+, letting users “send” documents to Alexa for follow-up questions.

Reading features are also expanding with tools like Story So Far and Ask This Book, which offer spoiler-free catch-ups and context while reading. These will roll out first to select titles in the US.

The new Kindle Scribe models launch later this year in the United States, starting at $499.99 USD (about $697 CAD) for the standard version and $629.99 USD (about $879 CAD) for the Colorsoft model. A front-light–free Scribe will arrive early next year at $429.99 USD (about $600 CAD). The lineup is also coming to the UK and Germany early next year.

Those are some premium prices for a Kindle Scribe. Even after exchange rates, the highest tier Colorsoft 64GB at $679.99 USD works out to $948.25 CAD, and after taxes, that’s over $1,000 CAD for a Kindle, which is something that wasn’t on our bingo card for 2026.

Canada is not included in the first wave of launches, similar to previous Kindle hardware releases, though these devices typically arrive here sometime afterward. Let’s wait and find out.
