Google Delays Replacing Assistant With Gemini on Android Phones
Google is pushing back its plan to fully replace Google Assistant with Gemini on most Android phones.
The company had previously said it wanted to upgrade most mobile Assistant users to Gemini by the end of 2025. Now, it says that timeline is slipping into 2026 as it works to make the transition smoother.
In a post on its community forums, Google said it is “adjusting our previously announced timeline” and needs more time before making Gemini the default digital assistant for most users.
“Earlier this year, we shared our plans to upgrade the Assistant experience to Gemini on most mobile devices by the end of 2025,” the company wrote. “We’re adjusting our previously announced timeline to make sure we deliver a seamless transition, and will continue our work to upgrade Assistant users to Gemini on mobile devices into 2026.”
Google did not share a new firm deadline, but said more details are coming. “We’ll share more details on our plans in the coming months,” the post added. “Your feedback matters to us.”
For now, Google Assistant will continue to exist on Android phones while Google works behind the scenes to prepare Gemini to fully take its place.
