2026 MacBook Pro Said to Feature OLED Display, New Design
According to a recent report by TheElec, Apple’s next-generation MacBook Pro is set to debut an OLED display, touch support on the main screen, a thinner chassis, and the next evolution of Apple Silicon with M6 class chips (via 9to5Mac).
Apple is expected to introduce a major new version of its MacBook Pro in late 2026 or early 2027. These changes would mark the most substantial overhaul since the current design debuted in 2021.
The most talked about upgrade centers on the adoption of OLED display technology. OLED panels deliver deeper blacks, richer colors, and wider contrast ratios compared with the mini LED screens that Apple has used on recent MacBook Pro models. Analysts and supply chain experts believe Apple will start using OLED on its Pro series laptops as production capacity for large notebook screens finally ramps up around 2026.
Alongside the new display, Apple is also rumored to add direct touch input to the MacBook Pro for the first time. Long resistant to touch interfaces on its laptops, Apple appears to be reversing course and embracing touch support on the next MacBook Pro.
According to respected industry watcher Ming-Chi Kuo, this feature would use on-cell touch technology similar to what Apple has used on its iPads, letting users tap, swipe, and interact with content directly on the screen without abandoning the traditional keyboard and trackpad.
Design changes are expected to extend beyond the display and touch. Reports indicate that Apple is planning a thinner overall frame for the next MacBook Pro models, and may ditch the current notch for a smaller hole punch style camera cutout. Under the hood Apple is likely to power these redesigned laptops with its upcoming M6 family of processors built on a 2 nanometer process.
Some industry observers believe Apple might also experiment with cellular connectivity on this MacBook Pro generation. Incorporating a built in modem would let users stay connected without relying solely on Wi Fi, echoing features already offered in Apple’s iPads and iPhones
Timing for this next MacBook Pro launch has seen conflicting reports. Many sources remain confident in a late 2026 debut, possibly aligned with Apple’s fall product events. Others suggest the rollout could stretch into early 2027 depending on display production capacity.
