Ubisoft Brings Rainbow Six Siege Back Online, With a Catch
Ubisoft has begun restoring access to Rainbow Six Siege after taking the game offline for more than a day following a major hacking incident.
In an update posted Sunday, Ubisoft said a rollback of in-game transactions was completed after extensive testing. The company first reopened the game through a limited “soft launch” to a small number of players before fully reopening servers to everyone.
Ubisoft confirmed that all players can now access the game, though some may encounter connection queues as services continue to scale back up. The rollback applies only to players who logged in between December 27 at 10:49 UTC and December 29. Players who did not log in during that window should see no changes to their inventory.
For players who did connect during that period, Ubisoft said a small percentage may temporarily lose access to some owned items. The company said it will continue investigating and correcting those cases over the next two weeks.
While the game is back online, Ubisoft noted that the in-game Marketplace will remain closed until further notice as the investigation continues.
The outage followed a breach on December 27 that briefly allowed players to access unlimited in-game currency and developer-only items, prompting Ubisoft to shut down servers across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. Ubisoft previously confirmed no players would be banned for spending the glitched credits and said the incident was unrelated to a separate anti-cheat ban wave. If you received free currency, looks like the fun is over.
As of 7 p.m. PT on Sunday, December 29, Rainbow Six Siege servers are live again, marking the first full return of the game since the incident began.
