Ford Confirms CarPlay is Not Going Away

At a major automotive technology conference, Ford’s chief financial officer Sherry House has reiterated that Apple CarPlay will remain available in its vehicles alongside Ford’s own digital systems.

House said that many drivers enjoy CarPlay and Ford wants to preserve that experience for them as new vehicles are rolled out. This announcement comes at a time when some other major automakers are reducing their reliance on third-party smartphone interfaces.

Ford’s cross-town rival General Motors has already opted to phase out both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto from its future electric vehicles, choosing instead to push its own software platform for infotainment and navigation functions.

Despite these industry shifts, Ford remains committed to giving customers the familiar CarPlay interface that allows iPhone users to access maps, messages, calls and music directly through the vehicle’s touchscreen. CarPlay has become a popular standard across many brands because it lets drivers use apps they already know and trust without taking their eyes off the road.

House’s comments also indicated that Ford is planning to introduce additional technology in the coming years. The company intends to bring Google’s Gemini platform into its vehicles when it becomes available in 2026.

Ford has been including Apple CarPlay support in its lineup for many years now. The feature has been available on models equipped with various versions of Ford’s SYNC system and continues to be compatible with most vehicles sold in recent model years.

While some manufacturers are experimenting with fully in-house infotainment systems, many drivers still prefer familiar smartphone-based interfaces. By continuing to offer CarPlay, Ford is aligning itself with consumer expectations and potentially strengthening loyalty among tech-savvy customers.

Good news. I’m not looking for a car company to build entertainment software that is subscription based, has ads and is terrible. Would much rather trust Apple or Google to get this right.
