Apple Marks Intel MacBook Air as Vintage

Apple has officially marked several of its older devices as vintage, including the last Intel based 13-inch MacBook Air and the Apple Watch Series 5, as noted by MacRumors.

The 13-inch MacBook Air model released in 2020 holds a special place in Apple history as the final mainstream notebook to use Intel processors before the company embraced its own silicon.

This model was on sale only briefly before Apple introduced the first M1 MacBook Air later that same year. With its shift to vintage status more than 5 years after it stopped being sold, this laptop now sits in an age bracket where Apple and authorised service providers may still offer some repairs if parts are in stock.

Alongside the MacBook Air, the Apple Watch Series 5 has been marked vintage. This smartwatch was first released in 2019 and was notable for bringing an always on display to Apple’s wearable lineup. All variants of the Series 5, including aluminium, stainless steel, titanium and special Nike and Hermes editions, were included in the update.

Like the MacBook Air, Series 5’s vintage classification means the device is older than five years since it was last sold, but younger than seven years. Apple may still provide service through its network, but only while components remain available.

Additionally, the iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 8 Plus in the 128 gigabyte version and the cellular model of the iPad Air 3 were also added to the vintage list in this latest round of classifications.
