WhatsApp’s Latest Update Makes Group Chats Less Chaotic

Meta’s WhatsApp is rolling out a set of new features aimed at making group chats easier to manage and more expressive.
The updates focus on helping people keep track of roles in group chats, highlight messages, and remember upcoming plans. WhatsApp says the changes are designed for everyday uses, from family chats to sports groups and work planning.
One of the new features is member tags, which let users label themselves differently in each group. For example, someone can appear as “Anna’s Dad” in a family chat and “Goalkeeper” in a soccer group, giving others quick context without changing their main profile. This makes it a lot easier for new people added to chats to find out who is who.
WhatsApp is also adding text stickers. Users can now turn any word into a sticker by typing it into Sticker Search. Newly created stickers can be saved directly to sticker packs, without needing to send them in a chat first.
Another update improves event reminders in group chats. When users create an event, they can now set custom early reminders for everyone invited. The feature is meant to help people remember things like when to leave for a party or join a scheduled call.
These additions build on existing group chat features such as large file sharing up to 2GB, HD media, screen sharing, and voice chats. WhatsApp says it plans to keep expanding group chat tools as more people rely on them to stay connected across different devices.
For now, WhatsApp remains the best app for group chats that works across all devices (regardless of operating system) and the web. Apple really needs to improve group chats on iMessage as it’s just a mess.
