iPhone 18 May Sport Under-Display Face ID
According to the latest leaks, the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models will keep display sizes close to those of the current generation, while bringing under-display Face ID technology to the forefront of the design (via MacRumors).
A trusted leaker active on Chinese social media recently shared alleged details about the iPhone 18 lineup. According to that information, the iPhone 18 Pro is expected to continue with a roughly 6.27-inch screen, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max would feature a panel near 6.86 inches. Those dimensions closely mirror the 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays on the iPhone 17 Pro models.
Where things get interesting is with the rumored move to under-display biometric hardware. Multiple leaks including recent reports and analyst commentary indicate Apple may finally relocate its Face ID sensors under the display on these Pro models.
Some sources believe the front camera itself might remain visible through a small punch-hole near the top left of the display, a configuration that could coexist with the discreet under-screen Face ID system. Others suggest Apple might keep a shrunken version of the Dynamic Island for alerts and interactive features, even with the biometric tech buried out of sight.
Beyond the biometric changes, the entire iPhone 18 family is expected to use more advanced screen technology. The prototype devices reportedly feature LTPO OLED panels capable of up to 120Hz refresh rates, offering smoother scrolling and better power efficiency compared with older screens.
Despite the buzz, it is important to remember these details remain unconfirmed and could shift before Apple’s official presentation. Leaks come from sources that have varying track records, and Apple itself often tests multiple hardware designs before choosing one for mass production.
Timing for the release is expected to follow Apple’s usual cadence with the Pro models launching around September. Standard models like the iPhone 18 and lower-cost iPhone Air 2 might arrive earlier or separately, possibly in early 2027.

I am so used to having a notch that I don't even notice it blocking my view. I guess Apple needed to space out its upgrades to show new features each year… haha.
