Meta Quest Owners in Canada Can Finally Stream Disney+ in Dolby Vision and Atmos

Disney+ has officially expanded its virtual reality presence, launching its native app for Meta Quest headsets in Canada today. The news, shared by Disney+ with iPhone in Canada on Thursday, confirms that local subscribers can now download the app directly from the Meta Horizon Store for Quest 2, Quest 3, and Quest 3S devices.

This release moves the streaming experience away from basic web browsers and into a dedicated virtual cinema. Users can now watch their favourite movies and series from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic on a massive, scalable digital screen that mimics a private theatre environment.

Technical Upgrades for Premium Subscribers

While the app is available to all members, those on the Disney+ Premium tier can access high-end visual and audio features. On the Quest 3 and 3S, select titles support Dolby Vision 4K HDR, offering significantly better colour and contrast than previous workarounds.

The audio experience has also been upgraded to include immersive Dolby Atmos sound for specific movies. By using the headset’s spatial audio capabilities, the app can simulate a surround-sound environment, turning any physical space into a personal movie house.

Fresh Content for the Virtual Screen

The Canadian launch arrives just as several major titles debut on the platform. Subscribers can now dive into new seasons of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, A Thousand Blows, and Tell Me Lies. Additionally, the new National Geographic series Pole to Pole with Will Smith is now available for those looking for epic adventures in a more immersive format.

One detail for tech enthusiasts is that all content on the Quest app is currently limited to 2D streaming. While some competitors (like Apple’s way more expensive Vision Pro) offer 3D versions of Disney films, Meta Quest owners will be viewing standard formats, though the sheer size of the virtual screen still provides a dramatic upgrade over traditional tablets or phones.

Getting Started in Canada

To start watching, Meta Quest owners simply need to search for the Disney+ app in the Meta Horizon Store. An existing subscription is required to log in, and the device must be updated to the latest version of the Horizon OS to ensure full compatibility with the new HDR and Atmos features.
