ChatGPT Go Debuts with Ads for Free Users
OpenAI has just announced global launch of ChatGPT Go. Originally tested in India, this new $8 USD per month subscription is officially rolling out to the U.S. and Canada, bridging the gap between the limited free version and the premium $20 Plus plan.
ChatGPT Go is OpenAI’s newest entry-level paid tier. For $8 a month, users get significantly more access to the company’s flagship model, GPT-5.2 Instant. According to OpenAI, this plan offers ten times more messages, file uploads, and image generations than the free tier.
This makes it an ideal choice for students, freelancers, or hobbyists who find themselves hitting the “usage limit” wall on the free version right when they are in the middle of a project. It also includes a longer memory and context window, meaning the AI will remember details from your past conversations more effectively over time.
While the lower price point is a huge win, there is a catch. OpenAI also announced that it will begin testing advertisements within ChatGPT. These ads will specifically target users on the Free and Go tiers in the United States.
The company says these ads will appear at the bottom or top of the screen when there is a “relevant sponsored product” based on your chat. For example, if you are asking for travel tips in Montreal, you might see a small ad for a hotel or a flight booking site. Fortunately, these ads won’t be shown to users under 18 or alongside sensitive topics like health and politics.
With this launch, the ChatGPT subscription lineup is now structured as follows:
- ChatGPT Free: Access to basic models with strict limits and upcoming ads.
- ChatGPT Go ($8/month): 10x more usage, GPT-5.2 Instant, and memory features (includes ads).
- ChatGPT Plus ($20/month): Ad-free, access to “Thinking” models for deep reasoning, and higher priority.
- ChatGPT Pro ($200/month): The “unlimited” tier for researchers and power users.
It is interesting to see OpenAI move toward a traditional “freemium” model that includes advertising. For many, the $8 price point will be the sweet spot to finally get reliable, high-speed access to AI without breaking the bank.

I can understand free with ads but the moment you start paying for a service or product there should be no ads at all.
Look at Netflix, Youtube, SiriusXM, and others. Those days are gone where you paid for premium content and there were no ads, no commercials, etc.
It’s wild out there right now in politics, entertainment, and AI. Perplexity Pro just added new limits to their ChatGPT and Gemini based models. And on RFD, the misinformation is unreal. People keep claiming Gemini is the same as ChatGPT even though they’re completely different systems, and those takes are getting glazed with upvotes.
