Looks like Apple is finally filling in one of those WWDC slide mysteries. iOS 27’s iPhone Handoff is shaped so you can keep the same phone number alive on two iPhones and switch between them without swapping SIMs every time you grab the other handset.
MacRumors walked through a forum demo running in Xcode 27’s Device Hub, and the setup lives under Settings, Cellular. You pick a main iPhone and a companion, the main keeps your primary eSIM, and the companion gets a companion eSIM so calls and texts stay on that one number while you hop devices. Cellular settings stay managed on the main phone, and location sharing follows whichever handset is actively using the line.
You’ll need two iPhones on iOS 27, and carrier support still looks like the real gate. Early notes point at T-Mobile and Deutsche Telekom as possible first movers, so Rogers, Bell and Telus customers shouldn’t assume this works on Canadian launch day until those networks say yes. I’m guessing we hear more once the beta stretch wraps and Apple starts lining up carriers ahead of the fall release.
That lands right as iOS 27 is deep into betas and the software drop is expected later this month, around the September 9 hardware crush. If you already keep a spare Pro in the bag, this is the one to watch when the next beta note or carrier update shows up. Until then it’s still demo-and-code territory, not a Settings toggle you can flip this weekend.
