Move or Lose It: Google Sets Final May Deadline for Fitbit Account Migration

Google is giving Fitbit users more time to move their accounts, but the company is still making the switch mandatory.
In an email sent Friday, Fitbit told users the deadline to move a Fitbit account to a Google Account has been pushed to May 19, 2026. Anyone who does not make the change by then will lose access to Fitbit using their existing login.
“The deadline to move your Fitbit account to Google has been extended,” the company said in the email.
Google says even users who already sign in with a Gmail address still need to complete the official account migration. After May 19, Fitbit accounts that have not been moved will stop working.
If users miss the deadline, Google says they will still be able to recover or download their data until July 15, 2026, when the permanent deletion process begins. “To continue using your account, you’ll need to move your Fitbit account to Google,” the company said.
To make the switch, users need to open the Fitbit app, go into settings, and select the option to move their account to Google. Google notes the app may need to be updated first.
Google has been gradually shifting Fitbit onto Google Accounts since acquiring the company. New Fitbit and Pixel devices already require a Google Account to activate. The company says health and wellness data will remain separate from Google advertising systems and will not be used for ads.
Users can also choose to download or delete their Fitbit data at any time before July 15, 2026. Originally, Google said the deadline to migrate was just in 2025, but now it has been extended a bit further into 2026 for the procrastinators out there.
