AMD CEO Suggests Next Xbox Console May Launch in 2027

AMD is suggesting that the next-gen Xbox console may be released next year. During the latest earnings call, AMD CEO Lisa Su claimed that the company is supporting Microsoft in its hardware development, and progress is going well for a launch in 2027.

As reported by PC Mag, Su took to the earnings call to state, “From a product standpoint, Valve is on track to begin shipping its AMD-powered Steam Machine early this year, and development of Microsoft’s next-gen Xbox featuring an AMD semi-custom SoC is progressing well to support a launch in 2027.”

As of the time of writing, Microsoft has not come out to state whether it has plans to launch a new console by next year. However, this may have been an unintentional slip made by the AMD CEO, painting a pretty good picture of what may occur next year. That said, it’s far from official confirmation.

Last year, Xbox and AMD announced a co-engineering partnership on next-gen silicon. The partnership secures the development of custom processors to power Xbox’s next-gen hardware. This includes new consoles as well as any future handheld products. AMD processors will also be leveraged to power Xbox Cloud Gaming.

“This is all about building a gaming platform that’s always with you, so you can play the games you want across devices anywhere you want — delivering you an Xbox experience not locked to a single store or tied to one device,” Xbox head Sarah Bond said at the time.

Su’s comments come as AMD is projected to see its semi-custom chip business fall in 2026 by a “significant double-digit percentage.” This is largely due to the fact that the current console cycle is entering its 6th year on the market. A new console generation, however, would kickstart that revenue cycle back up, especially with partnerships with Microsoft at play.
