Meta AI Now Lets You Animate Your Facebook Profile Picture in Seconds

Meta is rolling out a new set of generative AI tools for Facebook today that aims to turn static photos and text posts into animations. The update focuses on “animating” your existing content, allowing users to add motion to profile pictures, Stories, and standard Feed posts.

The most visible change is the ability to animate your profile picture. Instead of a still image, you can now apply presets like waving, wearing a party hat, or heart effects. Meta suggests using a clear, front-facing photo of a single person for the best results. Once the AI processes the image, the animated version can be set as your profile photo or shared directly to your Feed. The company says more seasonal animations will be added throughout the year. A new “Restyle” feature is also coming to Facebook Stories and Memories. This allows you to completely change the aesthetic of an image using text prompts or preset styles. You can tell the AI to change the lighting to “ethereal,” swap the background to a beach, or apply an “anime” filter. For those looking for inspiration, Facebook will now suggest specific Memories that it thinks would look good with a restyled AI coat of paint. You will never look the same ever again.

For standard text posts, Meta is gradually introducing animated backdrops. When you go to write a post, you can select from a new range of moving backgrounds, such as falling leaves or ocean waves.
