New ECOVACS Robot Mowers Kill the Weed Whacker: Yes, Coming to Canada

You may know ECOVACS for making some super capable robot vacuums, but now the company is expanding its lineup of outdoor robotics with the release of the GOAT A3000 and A2000 LiDAR PRO. These new robot lawn mowers are designed to handle more of the yard work than previous models by including a built-in trimmer to manage lawn edges that usually require manual touch-ups.

The new mowers will be available in Canada soon (pricing to follow, stay tuned), following their initial rollout in the United States and other global markets.

Autonomous Edging and Trimming

The standout feature of the new LiDAR PRO series is the integrated TruEdge trimmer. Most robotic mowers leave a narrow strip of uncut grass against fences and garden beds because their blades cannot reach the very edge of the machine. The GOAT series uses a flexible, high-speed string trimmer and AI cameras to identify the difference between grass and obstacles, allowing it to cut right up to the boundary.

This system is designed to eliminate the need for a secondary handheld trimmer, making the process of maintaining a lawn fully autonomous from the centre of the yard to the very edge.

LiDAR Navigation Without the Wires

Unlike many competing robot mowers that require the installation of boundary wires or external GPS antennas, the GOAT series uses a dual-LiDAR system for navigation. This technology allows the mower to perform 3D mapping of the yard in about a minute.

The laser-based navigation system is particularly useful for yards with heavy tree cover or buildings that might block satellite signals. Key features include:

  • Precision Mapping: The 360-degree laser scanning allows for accuracy within two centimetres.
  • Obstacle Detection: The AI-powered camera can identify and avoid over 200 common objects, such as garden hoses, pet toys, and small animals.
  • Terrain Handling: The mowers can climb slopes of up to 50 per cent (27 degrees), making them suitable for hilly properties.

Pricing and Yard Size

The series is split into two models based on the size of the property. The GOAT A3000 is designed for larger yards up to 0.75 acres, while the A2000 handles lawns up to 0.5 acres. Both models use a 32V battery system and dual cutting discs to speed up the mowing process compared to standard robotic models.

In the U.S., the new GOAT LiDAR PRO series is priced between $1,999 and $2,499 USD (about $2,712 to $3,390 CAD). Official Canadian pricing has not yet been confirmed, but the mowers will be sold through the ECOVACS website and Amazon once they launch locally. ECOVACS confirmed with iPhone in Canada these new mowers are coming here, so stay tuned for more (and don’t show this story to your lawn mower guy).
