Move Over iPhone: Apple’s New AI Pendant and Glasses Leak for 2027

Apple is ramping up development on a new suite of wearable devices designed to push the company into the AI era, according to people familiar with the plans, reports Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman on Tuesday.

The lineup includes smart glasses, a wearable pendant, and AirPods equipped with cameras, all aimed at making Siri a more proactive assistant.

People with knowledge of the matter say these devices will rely on visual context, using cameras to help Siri “see” and interpret the world for the user. While Apple has faced development snags with its Siri upgrades, the company is now betting on hardware peripherals to keep users locked into its ecosystem as competitors like Meta and OpenAI move into AI-powered hardware. We know that former Apple design legend Jony Ive and his firm LoveFrom are already working on an AI device with OpenAI.

According to sources, the smart glasses, code-named N50, are the most advanced of the group. People familiar with the project say Apple recently distributed new prototypes internally, targeting production as early as December for a 2027 release. The glasses will likely feature high-end frames developed in-house and dual cameras for high-resolution imagery and computer vision.

Also, Apple’s industrial design team is working on a pendant that clips to clothing. Sources describe the device as the “eyes and ears” of the iPhone, functioning as an always-on accessory for the Siri assistant. We’ve seen others try to create this (even former Apple engineers) and fail so far.

Apple CEO Tim Cook recently teased new product categories enabled by AI, so we know something is coming in the pipeline. As for how much these AI wearables will cost? That’s anyone’s guess, but we know it won’t be cheap. Which of the three supposed AI wearables in the mix would you actually want to buy?
