Apple’s AI Siri Overhaul Hits More Roadblocks: New Details on the Delay
According to a new report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple’s highly anticipated Siri overhaul has run into fresh technical snags that are likely to push back the release of several key artificial intelligence features.
While Apple originally aimed for a March debut alongside iOS 26.4, unnamed people familiar with the matter say the company is now spreading the rollout over future updates. This shift could mean some features will not arrive until iOS 26.5 in May, or potentially even iOS 27 this September.
The latest hitches involve reliability and speed issues. Sources told Gurman that internal testing has uncovered several persistent bugs, including significant processing lag where Siri takes too long to handle complex queries. Testers have also reported accuracy issues and a bug that causes the assistant to cut users off if they speak too quickly.
One of the most anticipated upgrades, which is Siri’s ability to tap into personal data, is specifically at risk of slipping. This feature would allow Siri to search your text messages or emails to find specific details, such as a podcast link, and play it immediately. Gurman notes that internal versions of iOS 26.5 now include a preview toggle, suggesting Apple may launch the feature with a warning that it is incomplete or unreliable, similar to a public beta.
The revamped Siri is built on a new architecture code-named Linwood. This system is powered by Apple’s own large language models but also incorporates technology from Google’s Gemini team.
Gurman says iOS 27 will bring a Siri chatbot, powered by Google’s Gemini, with the project codenamed “Campo”.
This sounds like deja vu all over again like we saw with the rollout of Apple Intelligence features. Apple, please give us an AI Siri soon, and take your time to get it right out of the gate. As it stands, Siri is so bad at even listening to dictation. It needs to be overhauled big time.
