iOS 26.4 Beta Reveals Apple TV CarPlay Interface

Apple is preparing to change how we spend time in our cars when we are not driving. A new demo of the iOS 26.4 beta has surfaced online, and it gives us the first real look at video playback support for CarPlay (via 9to5Mac).

This update is a big deal for anyone who spends time waiting in their car, whether you are charging an electric vehicle or waiting to pick up your kids from school. The most exciting part of this leak is the integration of the Apple TV user interface. Instead of just a simple list of files, the CarPlay screen transforms into a mini version of the Apple TV experience.

You can see your “Up Next” queue, browse through different categories, and look at movie posters just like you would on your television at home. The layout is simplified so it is easy to tap on a touchscreen while sitting in the driver’s seat.

Safety is clearly the main priority for Apple with this new feature. The video playback only works when the car is securely in park. If you try to play a video while the car is moving, the system will only play the audio or show a warning message. This is a smart move to prevent distracted driving.

One developer who had early access to the software said, “The system is designed to be completely locked down the moment the sensors detect any vehicle movement.” This verbatim quote confirms that Apple is not taking any risks with road safety.

The video quality in the demo looks sharp and fits the aspect ratio of modern car screens perfectly. It is not just limited to Apple TV+ content either. The code suggests that third-party developers for apps like Netflix or Disney+ will be able to create their own versions for CarPlay. This would make the car a much more versatile space for entertainment.

While we do not have an official release date yet, the presence of this feature in the latest iOS 26.4 beta suggests it could arrive for the general public later this year.
