Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version Games Launch Next Week as Part of 30th Anniversary

Pokémon Day is officially a week away, and it’s going to be a big one this year. The Pokémon Company is hosting its annual celebration, this time highlighting the 30th anniversary of the franchise with a Pokémon Presents and new game launches.
Announced online, a Pokémon Presents live stream is being held on Friday, February 27th at 9 AM ET/6 AM PT. As part of this live stream, the Pokémon Company will discuss new announcements and updates on everything to do with the franchise for the 30th anniversary. Most excitingly, the company has announced the arrival of Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version games for Nintendo Switch.
Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version will be made available on Nintendo Switch consoles right after the conclusion of the Pokémon Presents. Pre-order information is already available on the eShop, with each game being digitally sold for $29.99 in Canada.
Both games were originally released for Game Boy Advance in 2004. Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version are remakes of the very first games made for the franchise. Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green were first made available on Tuesday, February 27, 1996.
Going into the hopeful reveal of retro Pokémon games was the assumption that titles would be added to Nintendo Switch Online. However, the Pokémon Company has confirmed that Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version support features like local wireless battles with other players as well as “local communication.” Without Nintendo Switch Online, players won’t be able to take advantage of rewinding features and possible manipulation of Pokémon Home.
These rereleases will support Pokémon Home, so players can bring the Pokémon they caught from Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version to other compatible games.
Outside of Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version, it’s hard to say what else will be revealed on February 27th. However, it being the 30th anniversary of this beloved franchise, fans are sure to be tuning in around the world.
