Rogers iPhone Users Just Got a Major 5G Surprise in iOS 26.4 Beta
Last week, after releasing the first iOS 26.4 beta, many Telus users testing the software discovered 5G Standalone and Voice Over 5G Standalone options on their iPhones.
With today’s release of iOS 26.4 beta 2, it now appears Rogers will also get these same 5G Standalone toggles too, when the final iOS 26.4 is expected to release in March. Voice Over 5G Standalone means much clearer calls compared to VoLTE.
Just what the heck is 5G Standalone? It’s essentially a “pure” version of the network that operates on a dedicated 5G core rather than piggybacking on old 4G LTE infrastructure. The result? Faster upload speeds, better battery life, and the ultra-low latency required for lag-free gaming and future tech. It can also bring better battery life as your phone can just activate one 5G radio instead of 4G as well.
So what iPhones support VoNR? You’ll need an iPhone 12 series (12, 12 Mini, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max) and newer, so that means iPhone 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 series, or iPhone SE (3rd gen).
iPhone in Canada users have told us this is only for the iPhone 17 series so far, and it doesn’t connect yet.
Last fall, Bell was the first to activate 5G Standalone and now it looks like Telus and Rogers will be joining in on the fun.
