Google’s ProducerAI Lets You Create Songs

Google is making a major move into the world of music production by officially bringing ProducerAI into its experimental Google Labs folder. With Gemini and Lyria 3, users can create three-minute studio-quality tracks and custom instruments with simple text.

ProducerAI is an evolution of a startup called Riffusion, which gained popularity for turning text prompts into short musical clips. Now that it is part of the Google ecosystem, the capabilities have expanded significantly.

While previous versions were limited to very short segments, Producer AI now allows users to create tracks that are up to three minutes long. This makes it a much more practical tool for people who want to produce actual songs rather than just short loops for social media.

Under the hood, the system is powered by a combination of Google’s latest technology. It uses the Gemini model for reasoning and following complex instructions, while a new engine called Lyria 3 handles the high-fidelity audio generation. It even connects with Veo, Google’s video generation model, to help creators think about the visual side of their projects.

One of the most interesting new features is called Spaces. This allows you to use natural language to invent entirely new instruments and sound effects. If you want a sound that is a mix between a flute and a synthesizer, you can just ask for it. This removes the need for technical knowledge about audio patching or modular synthesis, which has traditionally been a barrier for many new producers.

Producer AI is currently available in over 250 countries. Creators can access it through the producer.ai website, where Google is offering both free and paid plans.
