Pokémon Winds & Waves Releasing in 2027 for Nintendo Switch 2

As part of Pokémon Day, the next-generation titles in the mainline franchise have been released. Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves will release sometime in 2027, exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2.

During the Pokémon Presents live stream, the two new games were announced. During the short trailer, we’re shown the three starter Pokémon available in the games.

Browt is the grass starter for the duo releases and is described as a “Bean Chick Pokémon”. Pombom is next and is the fire “Puppy Pokémon” starter available. Finally, Gecqua is shown as the water starter option and is a “Water Gecko Pokémon”. Already, fans are debating which one is the optimal pick to go with simply based on the looks of each one (my personal favourite is Pombon).

“Trainers can look forward to exploring an open world with vibrant, windswept islands and a vast, glittering ocean,” a press release reads. In Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves, players will receive a different outfit to wear depending on the version they play.

The games feature two new variants of Pikachu. In the trailer, we’re shown Mr. Windychu and Ms. Waveychu. Other Pokémon shown in the trailer include the standard Pikachu, Krabby, Duskull, Tangela, Slugma, Wailord, Gloom, and more.

As alluded to by the names, Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves have a deep emphasis on the ocean. Many shots in the trailer show underwater environments. “These new titles feature an open world to explore, with beautiful windswept islands and a vast ocean with glittering waves that ebb and flow,” the official game’s listing says. “The Pokémon that live in harmony with this region’s lush environment have developed their own unique ecosystems. By visiting these islands, you’re sure to open the door to a brand-new adventure that could only be found here.”

While this year marks the 30th anniversary of Pokémon, we’ll sadly be waiting until next year for the release of Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves. However, it was announced that Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness is coming to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. Additionally, Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version are now available on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
