PlayStation’s Glossy Hyperpop DualSense Controllers are a Visual Standout

PlayStation is set to launch its DualSense Hyperpop Collection in Canada this week, on March 12. Three colourways are included in the set, featuring a glossy and gradient look that’s undeniably unique.

The PlayStation 5 DualSense Hyperpop Collection was first announced earlier this month. Rounding out the set, the company is launching the Techno Red, Remix Green and Rhythm Blue designs. The controllers are inspired by RGB gaming setups, with vibrant colours that pop off the controller. PlayStation Canada sent over the Techno Red design to get a sense of the new glossy material and see how the colour looks in person.

As mentioned, the new DualSense controllers include a gradient black accent. While the controller itself is bold and vibrant, moreso than any other DualSense design thus far, the gradient accent really does a lot of heavy lifting. Shifting from the Techno Red design, the black gradient wraps around the front and back, across the top third of the controller.

What truly sets the Hyperpop Collection apart from others is the glossy finish. From a visual perspective, the gloss enhances the vibrancy. The controller looks great on my media stand and in photos. There’s a nice reflection in the glossy finish. If you have a red aesthetic in your gaming setup or living room, the Techno Red is a phenomenal addition.

Looks are only half of it. The glossy finish also affects the feel of the controller as well. Most other DualSense controllers have a slight texture that assists with the grip of the controller. Here, there’s very little grip to the controller. The Hyperpop Collection controllers are completely smooth but far more slippery. This past weekend, I’ve been playing a lot of Marathon, and I’ve found that the controller is a bit more difficult to have a firm grip on during more intense gunfights.

It feels like there’s a bit of a fashion over function trade-off with the Hyperpop Collection. The Techno Red is undeniably one of the boldest and aesthetically pleasing DualSense controllers out there. Though if you need the most tactile and textured controller for playing within a competitive space, the super-glossy finish could be an unforeseen hurdle. For platformers, puzzle games, and single-player experiences, the Hyperpop Collection controllers are a perfect addition.

The PlayStation DualSense Hyperpop Collection are officially releasing on March 12, 2026, for $109.99. PlayStation is also releasing matching console covers for $74.99 (around $102.99 CAD). However, they are releasing in limited quantities in select markets.
