Sonos Launches ‘Play’ Speaker and Era 100 SL: Here’s Canadian Pricing

Sonos expanded its lineup today with the launch of the Sonos Play and the Sonos Era 100 SL. The new hardware marks a shift back toward the company’s modular roots, following a difficult year defined by software app struggles and the launch of the Ace headphones, said the company today.

“Much of consumer tech promises innovation, yet too often delivers isolation — new devices replacing old ones instead of building on what already works,” said Sonos CEO Tom Conrad, in a statement on Tuesday. “We believe a great sound experience shouldn’t reset every time you add something new. It should get better.”

Sonos Play: The Mid-Size Portable

The Sonos Play is a new portable hybrid that sits between the smaller Roam 2 and the larger Move 2. It features a rugged, IP67-rated waterproof design and a 24-hour battery. It includes a built-in power bank to charge your phone and is the first Sonos speaker that can group with other units (like the Move 2) over a direct Bluetooth connection when away from home WiFi.

The speaker includes a wireless charging base for home use and has user-replaceable battery to extend its lifespan. It’s available in colours white or black.

Era 100 SL: A Cheaper, Privacy-Focused Entry

The Era 100 SL is a simplified version of the standard Era 100 that removes the built-in microphones, for $40 cheaper. This makes it a more affordable option for those who don’t want a voice assistant. Also available in black or white.

“We believe the first speaker you bring home should sound complete on its own, and become even better as your Sonos system grows,” said Chris Kallai, VP of Product Creation at Sonos.

Pricing and Canadian Availability

Pre-orders are open now on the Sonos website, with both speakers scheduled to ship on March 31, 2026.
